"My dad encouraged us to fail. Growing up, he would ask us what we failed at that week. If we didn't have something, he would be disappointed. It changed my mindset at an early age that failure is not the outcome, failure is not trying. Don't be afraid to fail." - Sara Blakely
Student Resource
Our team at Titan Project is always looking to improve and try to practice a growth mindset in everything we do.
"The problem human beings face is not that we aim too high and fail, but that we aim too low and succeed." -Michelangelo
As physiotherapists, we recognize our important role as educators for our clients and try to extend this to our future physiotherapists. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the time, effort, and dedication that other practitioners gave us during our time as students; we are more than happy to give back and have had over a dozen students from UBC to date.
Our team of physiotherapists are UBC graduates and we try to stay up to date on your programming (and, to be honest, you help keep us honest in this regard!).
To get a better understanding of who we are, we encourage you to browse our website. We are transparent in who we are and what we do and try our best to practice in this way. To get some insight into our practice modeling we recommend reading our following blog posts:
We practice a biopsychosocial model and appreciate that every person who comes to see us is unique and will (almost always) benefit from a movement-based approach that focuses on a return to function.
It is easy to fall into the pattern of relying heavily on our objective measures without appreciating the complex nature of the complete clinical picture.
Our expectations on placement are straightforward.
Always respect self and others
Come with a willingness to learn and challenge the way you think
Arrive on time
And have fun! We learn in an environment where we feel supported and can relax. A little stress is good for us, but don’t worry! Worry doesn’t help us any. If there are any concerns (on our end) we will be transparent and will not blindside you when it comes to review time. We are excited for your success and will do our best to make the experience meaningful for you.
"We find comfort among those who agree with us, and growth among those who don't." -Frank A. Clark
FAQ:
What’s your dress code?
Business-casual. But, importantly, dress in something comfortable that you can move in.
What are your regular work hours?
Typically we work from 8am to 4pm, but there could be some variability (we will let you know in advance!)
What should I bring on my first day?
Food’s good. Unless you are intermittently fasting, then you’ll be fine.
While we have made the shift to EMR, we still use pen and paper for day-to-day notes, etc. If you have a favorite pen, bring it with you.
What can I do to prepare for my placement?
You are reading this so you are off to a great start. If you have any other questions or anything is unclear, please fire me an email at tyler.legear@titanproject.ca
Do you have any recommendations on where to stay during the placement?
We are actively looking to build our connections on excellent places to stay within the Cowichan Valley.
If you are looking into places to stay and are wondering if it is suitable or not, reach out. We are familiar with the area and can definitely help out in that regard. Also, if you are in a real bind, let us know - we will do what we can to help out (sometimes accomodation can be the most stressful part of placement!).
At then end of the day we are motivated to make your learning experience worthwhile and individualized to your interests and needs. If you have any inquiries, burning questions, or just want to say hello, reach out!
